God has established many immutable laws that impact our lives on a daily basis. Perhaps, you are not certain what the term immutable really means. The dictionary definition says it means “incapable of change.” The word incapable tells us something will never happen. In fact, it tells us that it cannot ever happen. Let’s consider what this means in relation to the immutable laws of God. First, the Bible states clearly in the 119th psalm, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” Forever means exactly what you would expect – forever! Jesus himself said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” With those 2 verses in mind we can completely trust God’s word to be true, and remain constant forever. Not even God is capable of changing His word, because He has stated an eternal fact, and He cannot lie. I get excited when I consider how this all applies to 2 scriptural principles in the Bible. One is found in the Old Testament, and one is in the New Testament. Proverbs 23:7 states, “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” This means that we really do become what we think. And that makes our thinking a powerful force in our lives, now and for eternity. In Galatians 6:7 it says, “...For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” This means that our choices really do determine the direction of our lives. And that makes our thoughts, words and actions a powerful force that we cannot ignore. Here is the positive side of immutable truths and how they affect us. If God’s word is forever settled in heaven, and if it says that I will become what I think, and reap what I sow, then I can think positive thoughts, speak positive words, and do positive things that are in harmony with God’s revealed truth, and positive things will happen to me! It’s not that God will be forced to bless me; rather, He has already declared that He will bless me. So why doesn’t this seem to always work in our lives? If immutable laws are not capable of being altered or changed, why doesn’t everything turn out positive for the Christian? The answer is simple. There is one thing that can prevent immutable laws from occurring – unbelief. “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” If I think negative thoughts, and speak negative words, I will become a negative person and live outside the automatic blessing of God. However, if I line myself up with the eternal laws God has established, I cannot lose – He must bless me! Let’s begin 2009 anticipating that God’s immutable laws will work in our personal lives. Let’s refuse doubt and unbelief, and begin trusting God to do what He has promised to do. |
